A little bit of Peace & Love!

Today I decided to rock my favorite dress ever- it's from Buckle (surprised? should be.) and has little sparrows all over it- i also love the muted grey green. I then decided to boho it up a bit by adding the crochet top (LOVE this piece, also from Buckle) and the adorable headband. I added some girly and height with my lovely wedges (Buckle again). Layered up the bracelets and voila! This just screams KAYLINDA!

So ready for fall but summer is still in my closet

I am SO ready for fall. I love everything about it....but i love the fashion the most! Boots, sweaters, layers, COATS (obsession), and cute accessories all balled into on amazing season! I decided to dress it up with a fun white (YES, Tammy, White- I don't wear a lot of white, it gets dirty too fast!) with a little fun colored tank, my rocks (Rock Revivals) and my favorite wedges ever. I paired it all with gold accessories and rocked the UNK campus :)

Yes I dared to wear my cowgirl boots somewhere other than Nebraska..

I have a problem. Well actually I have multiple problems when you take into account my many unhealthy addictions but we won't go there. ANYWAY.. I have skinny ankles and the solution I've found is to wear boots so it looks like I have normal sized, normal people ankles since boots cover up my abnormal, skinny, weird people ankles. I've always wanted a pair of Corral boots, but that major of a dent in my bank account wouldn't sit well with me. Thanks to my discount I got this past summer, I purchased a pair which also happened to be $100 cheaper than your average pair of Corral boots! SCORE. They ended up being around $100. Very reasonable for a pair of real leather boots! I wore them ALL the time this summer. Once they were broken in, they are by far the comfiest shoes I own- yes, even more comfy than flippie floppies and Sperry's. COMBINED. Best investment EVER! Now that I'm back at home, I don't dare to wear them out on any given day though, so there has to be an occasion to wear. Thank goodness we have a Denim & Diamonds here!

Wake Up late kind of day.. A.K.A Bad.

This morning I was rudely awaken by a sudden feeling that I had overslept- I had! It was 7:45 and I needed to be to class AT 8- no tardies! So I rushed to get ready and well- I ended up like this:

Well- today was a long skirt and t-shirt kind of day. I was extremely busy with school and i just needed to be cute and relaxed so this is the outfit i picked for Monday! Headbands are always a must :)

One of my girly friends, Katie, invited me to one of her best friend's going away party. We all went to high school together so it was expected to be like a mini high school reunion! Reese is moving to Germany. The place he picked for his get together is Rock Island Live, a place I had never been to and it became popular while I was gone during the summer (LOTS of things changed this summer! LOTS!). I hear the crowd is more alternative.  Since I LOVE to dress the part of the occasion, I wanted to try something less girly and maybe wear something with more of an edge (Ok please note: when I say "edge," I mean black lol). Bright Ombre before summer ends!

Ok, I know you are probably tired of seeing this top, BUT it's my absolute favorite thing that I purchased this summer (ok, it's between this top and my Corral boots... save those for a later post, so you have to come back to see them :) hehe). There couldn't be a more perfect top! The colors are absolutely beautiful, it fits true to size with the perfect amount of flowage, and the lace detail on the pocket and shoulders- I just love!!! I wear this top any chance I can get.

{Introductions are in order]...Kaylinda!

What is up friends?! The name is  Kaylinda Nicole (Holmes) DeTurk- Yup Married!! Two years now to the most amazing man a girl could ask for, Jarod DeTurk. I was born and raised in Nebraska where I currently live now, not too far from my family! I have an extremely large family including both sides (DeTurk & Holmes) with lots & lots of nieces & nephews that I love to pieces!!! I also have the two most beautiful, evil but beautiful,  puppies in the world- Sammy & Emmy! I am currently a student at the University of Nebraska- Kearney majoring in Interior Design AND K-6 Elementary Education (yes, you heard me right, well sort of. I am done with Interior Design, now I am on to ELED!). I also have a photography business, Kaylinda DeTurk Photography, that is off the hook! I love everything about it and I cannot wait for it to expand! J Wish me luck!! I am 5’-nothing and I know it- but big things come in small packages! Remember that. I change my hair a lot- I get bored and like to stay up-to-date on the latest trends. I also LOVE fashion and everything that goes with it! I drive a light pink beetle and my style is Peace (boho), Love (girly) & Sparkle (glitz) with a touch of rebellion (rocker)- I am anything but basic! My hobbies include  SHOPPING! (some, meaning my mom, dad, brother, Tammy and hubby, may say that it is an addiction but the first step in overcoming any addiction is admitting to it right? Well.. I don't have a problem :)),  crafting & doing anything DIY, eating popcorn, photography, shopping, decorating- anything, weddings, watching Disney movies, shopping, fishing but not being in the water, & spending time with my hubby and puppies.  I’m pretty obsessed with Big Ben, London and traveling! I am also a huge fan of Harry Potter- you muggles wouldn’t understand. God and Jesus are in my heart and will forever stay! J I am deathly afraid of sharks (weird, I know since I live in Nebraska), spiders (& all creepy insects), and balloons (again, weird, whatever!).  
I CAN'T wait for Tammy to come back to Nebraska in 2013!! These past few months (June ’12 to August ’12) have been amazing with her and the next 5 months are going to be TERRIBLE without her! 

I may grow old in body and mind but in my heart, I will be forever young.

The name on my birth certificate is Tammy Vy Nguyen (Kay likes to call me Tammy Vye Nuh-guy-en :)) I'm currently a Kansas resident although I aim to be reunited with my bff in Nebraska at the start of 2013! :) With just one semester left of college before I obtain my degree in business adminstration with an emphasis in marketing, real estate, finance, and management- I'm trying so very hard to be patient before seeing that light at the end of the tunnel everyone keeps telling me about! Week two of school.. only 15 more to go!

My outlook on life can be summarized in one quote. Ok maybe two quotes. I just LOVE quotes.

“Have great hopes and dare to go all out for them. Have great dreams and dare to live them. Have tremendous expectations and believe in them.”

“If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place. So take every chance you can get!”

I have nothing short of a positive attitude towards everything because I believe where there's a will, there is always a way. TRUTH. Don't EVER let anyone tell you different.

My hobbies include almost anything and everything but to name a few of my favorites: SHOPPING! hanging out with friends and family, shopping, arts and crafts, decorating, shopping, scrapbooking, jewelry making, fishing, making videos, photography, jamming to music, and on some days.. I like to pretend I'm a food critic. 

I could live off of bacon burritos, pasta, pickles, and salt & vinegar chips for the rest of my life and be perfectly happy. Oh yes. Most definitely.

I love people who are witty, quirky, and have a good sense of humor! Usually ones that require me to use my imagination and keep me on my toes are the ones that make me smile and stay with me the longest. :) There's nothing more valuable than a good conversation.

Small people enjoy small things, or not. 

June 5, 2012:: First day on the job in a completely new town. The last 8 days had been a complete blur to me. All I could of think of day and night was the disbelief that I had actually gotten my foot into the door of the company of my dreams. The entire process took 7 months and now it's actually happening. Someone pinch me. Hard. I had 8 days to drop everything at home, figure out a place to live, pack my stuff, and move 5 hours away from the only place I've ever called home. During the company tour on my first day, I was introduced to many new faces and learned a lot of new names. One employee really stood out in particular. She sat in a cubicle in the corner. Blonde hair. Really cute style. She gave me a quick, shy (Tammy says shy, but I've never been known to be shy :)) smile when we walked by. I glanced at her name tag as we kept on walking. Kaylinda DeTurk. How do you even pronounce that? Then again, I'm sure everyone was asking the same thing about my last name.

Call me maybe?

Fast forward a few days:: I walked by the same girl and she gave me the same smile. Out of nowhere, she said, "We should hang out sometime, what's your number? I'll call your phone, then you have my number. Call me sometime?" 

Little did we know, that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship that made this blog possible.

We like to have fun. 

Kaylinda was the person I hung out with all summer and I have her to thank for such an amazing experience in a new town- Rarely do I hear stories of people moving to a different state where they know absolutely NO ONE and end up LOVING it. Come to think of it, it's practically unheard of. It's like seeing a dog walk on its hind legs (Mean Girls movie quote). What's going to happen? Am I going to meet anyone? Are people going to be nice? What if I absolutely hate it? Fall into depression?? All of that was irrelevant once we clicked. We made plans for the next day, that weekend, next week, 6 months from now, and even 5 years from now..

That's a look inside our journey from this past summer, well, what we can tell you! CHEERS to SUMMER 2012. Summer of dreams. And here is to many, many, MANY more!
